Lamar Odom recovering at home in LA after collapse

Lamar Odom on 11 May 2011

Ex-NBA star Lamar Odom is back in Los Angeles after receiving treatment at a Las Vegas hospital, a week after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel.
Mr Odom will continue his recovery in Los Angeles and is making "miraculous" progress, even taking a few steps, according to a family statement.
His estranged wife Khloe Kardashian, his father and two of his children are with the former Lakers star.
Police are conducting tests to establish what happened.
Odom, who married reality television star Kardashian in 2009, has long struggled with addiction.
He told brothel employees he had taken cocaine before arriving, police said.

Nye County Sheriff Sharon Wehrly said that a worker at the brothel reported Odom was found unresponsive with blood coming from his nose and mouth.
US media had reported that although Ms Kardashian filed for divorce from Mr Odom in 2013, it had yet to be processed and she was making decisions about his medical care.
Odom won the NBA championship with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010 and was named NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2011.
He last played in the NBA in 2013 with the Clippers.

Paris Saint-Germain v Real Madrid: Ibrahimovic ready to face ´one of the best´

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is confident Paris Saint-Germain are ready for their encounter with a Real Madrid side he has described as “one of the best teams in the world”.
Top spot in Group A will be up for grabs at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday, the two clubs having both taken maximum points from their opening two fixtures with victories over Shakhtar Donetsk and Malmo.
PSG have only lost to Spanish opposition on home soil twice in 12 matches. The most recent such encounter was a 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in last season’s quarter-finals – the stage they have been eliminated from in the past three seasons.
But Ibrahimovic – who became the French club’s all-time leading scorer on 110 goals following a double against Marseille, before adding a further two in the 2-0 win over Bastia on Saturday – insisted they are ready to test themselves against one of the greatest sides in football once more.
“Against Real Madrid it will be completely different [to the Bastia match],” the Swede said.
“We’ll be playing at home, against one of the best teams in the world – it will be nice.
“Now we can focus on that match – we’re ready.”
Goalkeeper Kevin Trapp could be fit to start despite missing the match against Bastia with a thigh injury, but Salvatore Sirigu will remain between the posts if coach Laurent Blanc decides not to risk the German.
Marco Verratti is available following a calf problem while attacker Angel di Maria, who was part of the Madrid side that won the Champions League in 2013-14, and Thiago Motta are expected to return after being rested on Saturday, but David Luiz (knee) remains absent.
Like Ibrahimovic, Cristiano Ronaldo became the leading scorer for his club at the weekend, netting his 324th goal in a 3-0 victory over Levante.
Madrid have won their last three clashes with French sides, scoring nine goals without conceding in the process, and have been boosted by the return of Sergio Ramos and Luka Modric.
The defender has recovered from a shoulder injury he aggravated against Atletico Madrid and the midfielder was back in group training after picking up a muscle strain while representing Croatia in the international break.
Gareth Bale was ruled out of the game on Monday after being diagonsed with a calf injury.
Karim Benzema, Pepe and Dani Carjaval did not participate in a training session on the same day, so coach Rafael Benitez may be forced to deploy Danilo at right-back.
The Brazilian made his first appearance in over a month against Levante, and he has called on whoever is selected to play at their maximum in Paris.
“It will be a difficult game. They are a great side, but we are ready to play,” Danilo said.
“Having so many injuries is difficult but we have players to replace them and those that play have to give 100 per cent.”

MLS Review: Timbers rout Galaxy to boost play-off hopes, Grella scores in record time

Portland Timbers stunned reigning MLS champions LA Galaxy 5-2 to boost their play-off bid on Sunday.
After trailing 1-0 at the break, the Timbers – inspired by Fanendo Adi’s brace – scored five second-half goals at StubHub Center as they moved a step closer to a post-season berth.
Back-to-back victories catapulted the Timbers up to fourth in the Western Conference on 50 points, three points clear of seventh-placed San Jose Earthquakes with one regular-season match remaining.
The Galaxy – second in the West and bidding to win the Supporters’ Shield – made a perfect start to proceedings thanks to captain Robbie Keane in the 35th minute.
Keane allowed a pass from Juninho to drop over his shoulder and bounce before volleying powerfully past Adam Kwarasey.
That is as good as it got for the Galaxy as the Timbers rallied relentlessly after the interval.
Adi restored parity in the 65th minute, when he turned and fired the ball into the roof of the net, before he doubled his tally from the penalty spot three minutes later.
Diego Chara put the Timbers 3-1 ahead with 16 minutes remaining after his header proved too hot to handle for Donovan Ricketts.
Keane did give the Galaxy a glimmer of hope when he pulled a goal back in the 84th minute but late goals from Darlington Nagbe and substitute Maximiliano Urruti sealed the points.
New York Red Bulls clinched top spot in the Eastern Conference following their 4-1 demolition of Philadelphia Union.
Set up by Mike Grella’s record-breaking goal and four first-half strikes, the Red Bulls improved to 57 points, six clear of DC United, who humbled Chicago Fire 4-0 earlier on Sunday.
Grella, though, stole the headlines after scoring the fastest goal in MLS history in just the seventh second.
A wayward pass from Cristiano Maidana following kick-off at Red Bull Arena allowed Grella to run through and open the scoring for the first of his two goals.
Bradley Wright-Phillips and Kemar Lawrence were also on target for the hosts.
Meanwhile, Seattle Sounders and Houston Dynamo played out a 1-1 draw.

Can Wayne Rooney return to scoring ways against Everton?

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has only scored twice in ten games at Goodison ParkEngland and Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has recovered from the injury which kept him out of the recent Euro 2016 qualifiers.
That means he will be in the Red Devils squad to face former-club Everton later today at Goodison Park.
Turned
Wayne Rooney was a hero amongst the Everton fans, a local lad made good for the Toffees. That changed in 2004 when their star youngster joined Manchester United in a deal worth around £30million.
To say the deal angered the Goodison faithful would be an understatement. Those feelings of anger have now faded and Everton have moved on. However it seems Rooney has not got over his feelings for the Toffees.
Struggle
Rooney has scored just twice in ten appearances at Goodison Park since his move to Old Trafford. He struggles to have an impact at his former home ground, despite the fact that there is now very little anger emanating from the Goodison Park crowd.
It is not just at Everton Rooney has struggled to score though, as the England star has scored just one Premier League goal this season.
Rooney is now playing in a deeper role than he has in previous seasons for United, with Anthony Martial the focal point of the United attack. Rooney is playing as a number ten, which is often considered his best position.
Criticism
Rooney’s lack of goals and form this season has led to major criticism by fans. Some United fans have even suggested that the England captain should be dropped from the Red Devils starting line-up.
That may be slightly harsh on a player who has helped the club achieve so much in the last decade. However, sometimes there is no room for sentiment when a club is attempting to return to former glories.
Backing
Rooney has received the backing of boss Louis van Gaal. The Dutch boss said: “Maybe against Everton his average is not so good, so it’s getting time that he changed that pattern,”
“I don’t know [why he has struggled], that you have to ask Wayne, but I’m a manager who analyses opponents and gives him advice as to how we can disorganise Everton’s defence and then maybe he can score.”
The Dutchman needs to do something to shake the forward back into form, because he has struggled to have an impact in the league this season. The 29-year-old will continue to be criticised if he does not find form.
Fans are not always the most forgiving people in the world and can often be hard on the clubs big players. However they pay those big wages so expect certain standards of the players representing their team.
Strong
Everton have started their Premier League campaign in a decent manner and suffered just one defeat, from what looked like a tough start to the season. The side from Merseyside will also be able to welcome back highly-rated youngster John Stones into their starting line-up.
The Chelsea target has missed the last two games through injury, but new signing Ramiro Funes Mori has not let anybody down as his replacement. The return of Republic of Ireland full-back Seamus Coleman at right-back will also be a lift.
Everton are not infallible at the back, as Coleman and opposite full-back Brendan Galloway will raid forward at every opportunity. The Toffees keeping a clean sheet often depends on whether central midfield pair Gareth Barry and James McCarthy are having good games, which is not always the case.
Rooney certainly has a chance of breaching that Everton backline, but it will not be easy, as John Stones and England international colleague Phil Jagielka have formed a good partnership at the heart of the Toffees defence.
Written-off
Wayne Rooney has been a superb servant to Manchester United and had a hand, or foot, in everything that Manchester United has achieved in the last decade. It is far too early to write the striker off even if he is not the force he has been in the past.
Rooney is odds of 11/5 to score at his former ground, but at the moment I would not be backing the striker to score. The striker will rediscover his scoring form at some point, whether that comes on his old stomping ground only time will tell.
